Attempting to replace fuel pump so trying to lower gas tank. Current issue is the fill hose or hoses. I finally got the upper outside hose loose from the upper fueling receptacle and I find there is a thin hard plastic inner hose. I pullled down the outer hose about 7 inches and it appears and acts like the plastic hose runs all the way to the gas tank. I have not loosen (hard to loosen) the outer hose at the tank.
Question: Looking for insight on taking off gas tank or specifically the filler hose assy on the gas tank for this the era of gm truck. Any other tidbits to help would also be good. Hate working on newer stuff. TIA.

I'm just the opposite, I hate working on the older stuff....
tlhose ones are pretty straight forward. I've seen some guys remove the bed but personally that doesn't work for me....
After you get the driveline out & straps off, you can lower & roll the tank a bit to get some room. That small hose will pull all the way out or you can take the hose off at the tank once you have the room to get bewteen the tank & frame, then you won't have to worry about it clearing the frame when removing the tank & reinstalling it. Also once it's lowered a bit you can disconnect the electrial connecters and fuel lines.....
On some of those assembles GM had the wonderful idea of putting round "collars" on plastic inlet & return fittings from the pump assembly, so close to the fuel lines, a spring lock tool won't fit in there to release the lines......You could grind your tool down, fight and cuss it to get it out or do what I do......Just break the lines off the pump asssembly, stick a screw w/vise grips in the broken piece (actually a broken orfice tube remover works perfect), put your spring lock tool in the line to release the clips and put the broken piece out.....
If for some crazy reason you are just replacing the pump & not the whole assembly, then you'll have to fight & cuss the lines..............

Hello, this is Zeke (sm11a1) At this time I have the tank on the floor and pretty good room to access the 3 remaining fuel lines. Yes they (connectors) are close to the assy. ** I don't not have a a spring lock tool ! Is that going to be required?? I take it from what you wrote the intake orifices can be broken off , so can I cut them w/ big diagonal cutters?? Lastly if I need the tool, will it be a GM factory item? Any suggestion on the tool and use. Struggling along. Thanks.

I've always lifted the bed to acess the pump . Take the bolts out on driver side and loosen the ones on the passenger side. Unplug tail light harness .Unbolt filler pipe from bed ,leave on tank. Place a bottle jack on top of tire with a piece of 2x4 on top of jack. . Slowly lift enough to acess pump.Place a jackstand or similar devise in gap. They make a release tool just for those tight fitting couplers. Atho you have already dropped tank you may want to lift bed to make re-install easier.
