Hope somebody can help...
I have a 2001 Focus (yeah I know...) that stutters when I accelerate. I was driving home with a trunk full of groceries, in 110 degree heat and the AC on full. Everything was fine then it just started to stutter (no idicator lights). If I keep it at very low speed it does fine and it idles fine. It only happens when I try to go more than 10 mph. I checked for broken vacuum lines and cracked ignition wires and it all looks fine. The plugs are about a year old (Motorcraft). Any ideas?

Just a shot here but I think I'd try some trottle body cleaner and see if that has any impact on the problem. Let us know, T

Thanks for the tip. I checked it and it seemed to be in good shape, but I cleaned it anyway. I checked the coil and it seemed ok then I decided I'd check the plugs (that are only 7 months old) and bingo! Two of the plugs (Bosch Platinum) were completely wiped out. Luckily I kept the original Motorcraft plugs so they're back in until I get NGKs.

Couple thoughts on the plugs.

Cars are getting very sensitive about OEM specs and I always used to go for what I thought would last longer and they usually cost a bit more and many were more rust resistant which can be an issue.

Another thing I've been burned by with parts in general is the handling of them before you get them or in the case of spark plugs if you drop one mark the cylinder and go there first if there's a problem. Don't buy plugs when you see the packaging damaged as the porcelain can have unseen cracks that can divert the spark.

It gets dismaying when you have to question new parts. Happens too much and with this Focus take note of which plugs as it may be another problem, T
