Year of vehicle: 2001
Make of vehicle: VW
Model of vehicle: Bug
Engine size: 2.5
Mileage/Kilometers: 100k

I had my car in for an oil change three months ago and at that time had them check all of my fluids which they said were fine. A few weeks ago I noticed that my car wasn't accelerating like it was and then one day my air kicked off, started to blow hot and my car ran very slow. My boyfriend checked my anti-freeze for me and found that the tank was dry. We added anti-freeze and then tried to drive the car again. It was still over heating and and the cooling fans were no longer turning on. What could be wrong here?

OK, let me stop you there. What the circumstances were 3 months ago means nothing with a failure just weeks ago. Fluid levels are the driver's responsibility to monitor at all times and it could have developed a leak even days prior.

You very well may have severe engine damage now from overheating but the first thing you need to do is to determine where the coolant went and resolve that issue first. Then you can find out if there is further damage.
