The code reader reads read 2 codes 171,po171 The engine runs great though, so I clear the code with the code reader then the engine check light goes off It stay off for about another yr. The research I did points to the maf sensor. What is your opinion on this

That means the engine is running too lean and the computer has reached it's adaptive limits/ Erasing the code doesn't resolve anything. You need to find the cause of the lean mixture. Look for vacuum and air leaks first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You also need to look at what they call freeze frame data when the codes are set with an enhanced scan tool. The freeze frame data has a list of data stream parameters that was recorded when the code triggered. A good tech can use that information to see what kind of lean condition it is and possibly determine how to duplicate it. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
