Hi there,

So I have a 2000 Mazda Protege 1.6L engine if it doesn't already show that on my profile.

The CEL code is P1141: Downstream

I know this code suggests there is an issue with e the downstream 02 sensor, however I already installed a new one in August!

My friend did some voltage testing:

* 5V coming out of the heating circuit
* No voltage coming out the PCM! --------->> What does this mean?

So what else should I check , before I go and buy yet again another 02 sensor??? Gas mileage has deterioted!

Previously I had a po420 cat code, but that didn't come up this time.

Help!

Unplug the sensor and you should have 12v on the orange wire with the key on.

Power for the heater doesn't come from the PCM. The power comes from the ignition switch (on position) and the PCM grounds the heater circuit to turn it on.

Trace the black/blue wire. It comes from the ignition switch.

You're right, I followed the wrong wire but I see it goes through a fuse between the switch and the sensor (engine fuse 10A) in the inside fuse box behind the left kick panel.

Just check the fuse in the left lick panel. If that's good, take it to the mechanic.

Gee, that's a tough one. If the fuse is no good, what should you do?

Maybe replace the fuse.

If the fuse was blown, the engine wouldn't run. The fuse protects the circuits for the O2 sensor heaters and ignition coils.

That only leaves the wiring and that is beyond his ability so he is back to taking it to the shop.

If I dont have to raise the car, then its within my ability.

I rewired the harness for my motorcycle.
