OBD code reader not resetting check engine light Sign In

Hey guys,

I've been using my CAN OBD 2 AL310 car scanner no problem up until recently, and just this last week it stopped resetting the check engine lights. I've tried it on three different cars and it's not resetting.

The reader is reading the fault codes no problem, and when I click on "erase", it tells me that the codes are erased...but the check engine light is staying on. Three cars in a row.

Anyone heard of this before? Any ideas? I can't find anyone else online saying they've experienced this.

Thanks.

What's the big mystery? If it doesn't work on any car, then it's broken. Try a different code reader.

If it IS broke that's exactly what I'll do.

But I have a hard time believing it's broke since it's only two months old and still reads the codes.

I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this before; personally or from others.

Thanks.

I don't know what kind of answer you're expecting to get. It's a $40 Chinese code reader that doesn't work.

You could try updating it. Try another code reader.

Maybe your code reader is erasing the code, but the code is reappearing because the PCM is detecting a hard fault.

What is the trouble code number? Year, make, model, and engine size?

He said he was having the same problem on 3 different cars. I doubt it's a hard code.

Re: OBD code reader not resetting check engine light Sign In

Thanks very much man, I think you were actually dead on with the hard codes not allowing the engine light to be reset.

Two of the three cars which weren't allowing me to reset their code had fault codes pointing towards electrical issues. Both cars seem to turn their check engine lights on and off at random; which seems to line up as well.

The third car was my own, and the check engine light successfully turned off this morning after trying again. My check engine light is always an evap code, so I am turning that light off about once every two weeks.

Thanks again fellas.

Re: OBD code reader not resetting check engine light Sign In

So, why don't you just test it by inducing a code by unplugging a sensor and then plug it back in and clear the code.
