Year of vehicle = 2006 Make of vehicle = Dodge Model of vehicle = Grand Caravan SXT Engine size = 3.8 L Mileage = 410000 I live in Saudi Arabia. I have Check Engine Light ON for 2 months. I got it checked with OBD and they told me that error code is P0128. I read online for this and came to know that it could be a thermostat problem. The car's heat gadget is working fine and starts with all the way down and slowly moves to half and then stays there for the rest of the drive. Can the heat gadget work OK even if the thermostat is out of order? OR are there any other possible reasons for P0128 to be checked for? And how can I rule-in or rule-out those probable causes? Looking for usefu answers.

I second that response. Faulty or missing thermostat is really the only things that could cause something like that. That's unless the PCM is seeing a skewed coolant sensor reading or it has some weird software calibration bug which both are highly unlikely. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Does the heat gadget locate in the instrument cluster depends on thermostat for engine temperature? If yes, then faulty thermostat would lead to failure of heat gadget??

Maybe we are speaking a different language here. Replace the thermostat to resolve that code. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sorry for bothering you. I understand that I have to replace Thermostat. Just a little question, if you don't mind to answer "My car's heat gadget is working perfectly so it means that its work is independent of thermostat?"
