1999 ford taurus battery drainage

we have a 1999 ford taurus 3.0 it drains the battery in 15 minutes while the car is running we tested the voltage with a volt meter dvm to measure the voltage drop across the live connection while it is under the load we cleaned all the connections and it is still killing the battery we had 12.5 volts in the battery last night but the starter was only reading 7 volts then today we tried it & it is still killing the battery could you please give us a idea of what to do thank you so much

The first thing you need to do is have the battery itself tested to determine if it's even capable of holding a charge. Then once you have a known good and fully charged battery, you then need to use a digital voltmeter to test the voltage across the battery with the engine running at idle with no accessories on to see if it's charging properly.

WE ALREADY TESTED THAT & EVERYTHING IS TESTING GOOD DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTINS THIS IS OUR ONLY CAR & OUR SON HAS TO HAVE SURGERY DONE ON TUESDAY WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME & ADVICE THANKS AGAIN

What is the charging voltage?

the charing voltage last night was 12.5 in the battery but, the starter was only 7 volts thanks again
|

Pardon my jumping in here; \
Emily; As Hammer suggested, you need to check the charging voltage. 12.5V is not enough. It should be charging a minimum of 13.6V at idle. If your voltage is droppping from 12.5 to 7.0V during cranking, sounds like a bad battery or a really bad starter. But.....you need to address the battery and charging voltage first.

that's ok we will take any advise we can get it's been 5 day's now & i'm sure you can imagine the state of mind we're in we are tring to find out how to find a fusible link diagram because there is a box of fuses right beside the battery that doesn't show any numbers or anything but, there is one in front of the battery that show's numbers & the manual will show what they are for but, not for the one beside the battery we were thinking maybe the starter too but he already had it off & it was good too thank's again we will take any advise

like hammer and loren stated have to provide the info they requested before moving on.Have to eliminate charging system.take multimeter positive to battery positive and negative meter to battery negative terminal and start vehicle and see what the charging voltage is.If won;t start charge battery and test.if still low leave meter negative hooked to battery negative and hook positive meter to the output stud at alternator and see if it is higher.
