You have a communication loss because the pin on your OBD2 port that should have 12v present at it doesn't. Make sure your battery is charged, all connections shiny clean and tight and all fuses good and let us know what you come up with.

Ok thank you and will look those things over probably not till morning as we are getting some bad storms thru our area. I had it hooked up at advanced auto since I dont have a diagnostics tool. I have been looking to buy one for myself though, could you point me in the right direction for a decent one, not too awful expensive? Thanks , Dave

You're only running a 00 GM, and a Snap-On red brick can support that. Lot of guys in the industry had them years back. I got rid of mine because I couldn't update past model year 2000. But you would have full access to tech level data streams and codes from all modules. Look at craigslist, Ebay and especially your local pawn shops for one and could get it for about $200-300. If you think thats a lot, an Actron Code Scout 2500 they sell at Advance retails around $250 and can only access generic codes in the PCM. No ABS, no body module, no data streams and no functional test ability. I'd even call your local Snap-On guys to see if one has been traded in for a later model scanner. Haggle with them for a deal, as they know these things aren't worth much these days for pro techs and thats who they deal with.
