turn signal lights

Hi! I have a 1993 GMC Sierra 1500 8 cyl (4 wheel drive). Frequently the turn signal lights do not work (not even displaying on dashboard) at other times they do work. I pulled out the fuse and it appeared good. Any suggestions?

Check fuse with test light, power on both sides when key in position where it should enable directionals and are NOT working,
