Late night thought on this. I think many are going to require the new key be in the new lock cylinder such that the "tumblers" are in place (retracted) to bottom it in. Some assorted ways for assorted lock cylinders. If there was damage from removing the original or old one you have to deal with that first, T

no damage done, the old one came out just fine,on the end of the cylinder there is a tab that sticks out and that needs to fit in a slot at the end of the housing, kinda like putting a knife back into the sheath,if the sheath is off just alittle bit the knife won't fit, thats the problem-with battery connected, all dash lights are on,next step would be turning the motor over and when released it ends up at the previous position and no farther, does any of this makes sense

Sorry that I'm not sure what you are fighting with but wait for another here with some specifics for this and please include some more info to help. * What happened to old one? * Is this a column lock cylinder or if not where - dash or console if they did that on these? * Any antitheft controls at all either original or if aftermarket say so. * Is this a key with a chip by chance? * Lastly - do brake lights work properly? I ask because a shift lock when in park locks shifting and if brake lights don't work it would confuse things or if that jammed up somehow there's more to this problem you are trying to fix. See if another has any more info but do post answers to at least what I just asked to speed this up, T

It should be just a matter of having the switch itself in the correct position to align with the lock cylinder as it is inserted.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

the tumblers on the old ignition cylinder lock was shot, couldn't even turn the key to start engine then one day got lucky and it turned allowing me to push the tabs in and remove the cylinder,it does have the anti theft but do not see any kind of chip on the key,i can start the vehicle but to shut it off I have to disconnect a wire from the alternator to kill the motor,i do have head lights-low/high beam, brake lites- not sure- I did notice that when it's in this configuration the wipers, blower motor, windows, radio do not work, right now it's sitting in back yard under 2 feet of snow and not a real priority

By rotating it with a screwdriver until it lines up but reading your last post it sounds like you may have it installed completely but may have another issue.
