speed ometer not working

i have a98 chevy s10 2.2 replaced the vss and tghe pigtail but still cant get the speedo to work if i put direct power to the speedo it will work i spliced into the wires up by the pcm and then to the vss and that didnt make it work could the pcm b bad.i took it to a shop and they put it on a computer and said the vss was working bit nothing from thepig tail to the pcm the said change the pigtail i did that and nothing has changed can someone help me on this one
