Hello, was wondering, but have always thought it ok, is a coil, a coil, a coil. what I mean is it possible to use a 12 volt coil off a chevy say on a ford or dodge or vise-versa and is a 12 volt fire wall mounted solenoid useable on a ford or dodge? thanks.

Not always. Some have internal resisters and some use external resisters. They have varying capacities too.
