santa fe wont start after running a while

2002 santa fe wont start after driving >30 minutes, then starts after cooling off.replaced alternator, battery is dead sometimes as lights dont come on.sometimes battery is not dead.starts up runs fine for a few days then same thing happens.replaced battery terminals 1 yr ago noticed cable had lots of sulfur buildup all the way through as far as i can see.sound like this is problem? thanks in advance.

Did you just cut off cable ends for the temporary/emergency ones? NOT reliable. You do the whole cable if not good, clean up the mess w baking soda, carefully rinse off with water away from other electrical things, charge battery with a charger and check alternator output. If those there's no telling what troubles they can cause, T

just cut off cable ends, im suspecting bad cables too, thanks for your quick response.much appreciated..

That type is just to get you going till you can really fix it - they stink otherwise. Once you could get really nice permanent ends but hard to impossible to find now. With whole cable you get both ends - put some PB penetrating oil on them now so they cooperate. Check that charging system and even battery too. If it was spitting acid around there could be a problem causing that. This may have little to do with the problem but has to be fixed better or could confuse the issue. If acid got all over other items in area and problem still persists that's where to look, T
