right turn lignal light wont stop clicking

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy/4wdrive SUV. After turning on my right turn signal light and turning, it continues to click although the light is not blinking. I also hear a sputtering once in a while, especially when it is cold. What could be causing this? If I jiggle the arm that controls the turn signals/wipers/cruise control, it will stop for a while. Please help. Thank you.
