reprogram 2006 dodge caravan key

I recently bought a used key with the key fob on the key and I bought a blank key shell and put the key head in the shell so it's like a new key. This key fob has the 6 buttons on the key head.Then I had the new key cut to fit my van and the key works fine in the switch but I can not program the key to work. This is for a 2006 dodge grand caravan. The key that I bought was from a 2008 charger. Does anyone know how I can reprogram this key ( or the van ) to work. I have 2 working keys and I tried the way the owners manual said but the van will not accept this key. Any help.Thanks

I don't know what it is your trying to do but those keys cannot be programmed without having a DRBIII scan tool which at $80K and restricted availability, I'm sure you don't have.

Thanks Hammer for your response. I have programmed a regular chip key to this van by using the owner manual but I just can't get this one work the same way. The reason I wanted to use this key is that it has the buttons to open the doors. I was trying to see if anyone has tried to do this and had a trick. Thanks

There is no trick.
Here are the instructions from the service manual
PROGRAMMING THE IGNITION KEYS TO THE SKREEM
- Turn the ignition on (transmission in park/ neutral).
- Use the DRBIII(R) and select THEFT ALARM, SKREEM, then MISCELLANEOUS.
- Select PROGRAM IGNITION KEYS.
- Enter secured access mode by entering the vehicle four-digit PIN.
NOTE: A maximum of eight keys can be learned to each SKREEM AT ONE TIME. Once a key is learned to a SKREEM it (the key) cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
If ignition key programming is unsuccessful, the DRBIII(R) will display one of the following messages:
Programming Not Attempted - The DRBIII(R) attempts to read the programmed key status and there are no keys programmed in the SKIM memory.
Programming Key Failed - (Possible Used Key From Wrong Vehicle) - SKREEM is unable to program key due to one of the following:
- faulty ignition key transponder
- ignition key is programmed to another vehicle.
8 Keys Already Learned, Programming Not Done - SKIM transponder ID memory is full.
- Obtain ignition keys to be programmed from customer (8 keys maximum)
- Using the DRBIII(R), erase all ignition keys by selecting MISCELLANEOUS and ERASE ALL CURRENT IGN. KEYS
- Program all ignition keys. Learned Key In Ignition - Ignition key transponder ID is currently programmed in SKREEM memory.

This bulletin provides information regarding the use of correct part numbers when replacing Transmitter Key(s). NOTE :RS, CS and KJ vehicles use DIFFERENT internal electrical components from other remaining DaimlerChrysler vehicles, although identical in appearance.
MODELS: 2006-2007 (CS) Pacifica
2006 - 2007 (RS) Caravan/Town and Country
2006 - 2007 (KJ) Liberty
DISCUSSION:
Programming Correct Transmitter Key(s)
Special attention should be given to the correct part numbers on ALL DaimlerChrysler vehicles when ordering Transmitter Key's. Part numbers are different for RS, CS and KJ vehicles and are NOT interchangeable with other vehicles.
This bulletin should be printed and shared with the parts department personnel for informational purposes.
