Year of vehicle: 1999
Make of vehicle (Ford/ Chevrolet): renault
Model of vehicle ( Taurus/ Cavalier): clio
Engine size (2.0/ 5.7): 1.2
Mileage/Kilometers: 103,000 miles
Ok here it goes....
My clio was working perfect the other day, starts first time everytime. the mot ran out 2 days ago and i know it wont pass its mot, simply cause the steering has become faulty. It was literally moving off its hidges ha. took it to a repair shop and he said, "We cant fix that hear it will have to go straight to a renault dealer to be repaired" or "If ya call round the scappy, a fella called pete is very good with renaults he could help ya" So we goes there and he said he had a new steering colum wich will cost £20. So me dad said buy it and i will fit it.
Goes home a changes it all over, steering wheel, indercators etc. We kept the original ignition barrel and key, but now it wont turn over at all. Out of 20 - 30 attemps to turn it over it starts once and cuts out straight away. We did think it might be the battery but we rechanged it with jump leads, but still no luck.
Looking for advice from some experts without paying 900 quid at a garage.. thanks

You gotta be a Pom with the sentence structure in this one. Where you from in England? OK, When doing DIY repairs, it is kind of risky, cause if you don't 100% know what you are doing, you can kill something and not know how it was done. I will go through a few things it may be. Check wiring connections from the barrell. Are they all there and tight? Look for loose wires under the column. Make sure earth wires are where they are supposed to be. Make sure BCM is still looking normal.
The other thing, if you have disconnected your ignition to replace steering column, you may have activated the engine immobilisor. (does it have one) let me know what you come up with. The immobilisor will allow your car to turn over for about 1 sec, then kill it. Does it do this? Is your car remote controlled?
