I have a 1988 Range Rover that quit holding a charge recently. It ran fine and then one morning it just stopped turning over. I jumped it and it ran fine. Then i would let it sit and once again battery is dead. There is a slight crackling sound that comes from the door now. I have power locks and windows. I am thinking that maybe theres a bare wire that is causing a draw on the battery inside the door panel. Has anyone ever heard that kind of clicking or crackling before? Besides that the truck still drives 100% fine i just need to get a quick answer as to what could be causing the battery to die and what i need to do to fix it.

Make sure all terminals to the battery are clean and tight. Get an alternator check done, this takes 5 mins and usually costs nothing. If the ALT is holding charge, then you may have to pull the door skin off and see if there is any wires out of place. BUt I doubt that a wire in the central locking or electric windows if contacted could draw enough power to flatten a battery. But hey, you never know.

Thanx! that is an option i will have to try, but im perplexed as to what this crackling sound is in the door!!! It sure sounds electrical. any ideas as to what this could be?

Mate, to tell you the truth it could be anything. If it worries you, it only takes about 5 mins to take the door skin off. Best bet is to have a look for yourself. Could even be the speaker wire from front speakers making contact with something.
