Then you need to have the codes read and they should point you to the correct cylinder.

get the codes read and post the exact code numbers for us. Don't let autozone sell you a bunch of stuff just yet after reading the codes, just get them for us.

You can't really test a coil with a volt meter. You can measure resistance but that changes dramatically with temperature so that reading means nothing. You likely have a weak coil. That's why the new plug helped for a while. Make sure the valve cover isn't leaking oil into the spark plug tube also.

Thanks for the information , I do know that the longest wire from the coil is on no one cylinder I think it also fires no# 4 cylinder , but no # 4 is OK

If you haven't changed the wires already, that should be done also.

can this be possible the way these coils work if they-can fire 2 plugs say 1 and 4 then could one side be good on these coils say 4 cylinder could be firing perfect yes #1 cylinder could have a problem even though they are housed in the same coil?

Yes, it is possible. If it shorts to ground it will have a return path for the other cylinder.

so what if I swap the only 2 coils in the engine and see if I get a different engine misfiring code

The misfire is only at idle? Does it misfire when you accelerate or while cruising?

I would be replacing the wires before I did any swapping. They should have been replaced along with the plugs.

The plugs and the wires add together for an accumulated resistance and if the coil doesn't have the reserve to overcome the total resistance, it will misfire. Changing the plugs reduced some of the resistance and that's why it improved temporarily. You also need to change the wires to further reduce the resistance and if you still have a problem after that, replacing the coil will give you more capacity. If the coil capacity isn't higher than the total resistance, it will misfire.

Well I swapped out the coils , now I must test drive it until the Eng check light comes on , if so and I get a new coil, which I found some very reasonable prices on eBay and amazon
then Like you said get the new plug wires also.

I said to get the plug wires first. You can't rate a coil that is trying to push through high resistance.

yes I will , how ever when the check engine light comes on and I use my code scanner, it should tell me no 3 cyl missing and not number one cyl missing , if I still get a no 1 cyl missing code then it isn't my coils its the wires like you say but at least I'll know if its a bad coil from the swap out of the coils. if it is the coil Ill get a new set of plug wires also.

I want to thank you , My engine code came up the same after a coil swap out, so this lead to the wires or the plug ,,I bought a whole new wire set today at auto-zone ,went home and replace all the wires , none showed or looked bad or even tested bad ,how ever they were because when I changed them the engine runs as smooth as new ,I want to thank you for following me up on this repair- Rhondas
