old Aftermarket Compass/autodimming not working correctly

I picked up a older GNTX-120 auto dimming, compass Rear View Mirror at a junk yard and I am trying to install it but I am having problems. It has 3 positions on it, Off, Map, Compass/Map. I assume the map lights are external because I don;t see anything light up (that's OK). When I apply 12 volts across pins 1(pos) and 2 (ground) in the Compass/ Map position the compass will work but not the auto dimming feature. If I apply 12 volts across Pin 2 (ground) and pin 4 (pos) the auto dimming works only, regardless of swich position. If I apply 12 volts pin 1 (pos), pin 2 (ground) and pin 4 (pos) the auto dimming will work but not the compass regardless of switch positions. Does anyone know why the Compass and Auto Dimming won't work together in any position? Thanks, Ed

Junk is junk. Plug may be the problem. After market is usually crap!
