I bought a 1990 Ford Taurus Wagon, 3.0L. Every time we shut the car off, within 48 hours the battery is completely drained. The alternator checks out fine, as does the new battery (holds charge). The ignition switch is loose and I'm wondering if this could have something to do with that. The previous owner had hooked up an amp and additional stereo equipment, some of which was stolen while the car was parked (if that could be relevant). I know that it could likely be many things, but a general list sure would help me know where to start. Thanks a million!

Ok: As late as 87 and possibly later, Taurus the ign switches did this. They would get close to where you could pull key out but not exactly there and trickle drain and key would still come out! Look and feel for the proper position where totally "OFF" is when key should come out. If you just mark the exact spot with something on the steering wheel housing and ignition key cylinder you can just remember to leave it right there and may solve the problem or replace parts to make it right. May not be that problem but it's worth checking.
If that isn't it then check for a drain - ask and I will or someone suggest a good way to find what circuit is draining,

Ps: A battery that get run down too much is getting damaged so keep that in mind too......
