Greetings all. 2014 Kia Optima 2.4 I want to install a switch to prevent starting of the car. Intercepting the coil lead to the starter relay seems like a good place to install a switch. Where does this wiring originate? I'd guess the ECM. Does anyone have a wiring diagram? Thank you.

Does this car have the smart key system? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

This does have a smart key system but doesn't do the trick. This is 'THE' car people steal in Minneapolis. You see KIAs in parking lots with anti theft bars installed on the steering wheels. I think a city even sued Kia to recover law enforcement activities required to address it. This car was stolen last year. The plan is to disable the car with a switch and display an anti theft device (without the bother of really installing it every time we park). Thank you.

I understand your goal. I asked because the wiring diagrams are different.

Beautiful! I think I asked this once before, somewhere. Where do you get these diagrams? I search forever and can never find these. I'll bet it's a paid service. That's why. Thank you for info.

Wish you could buy the old manuals .... oh well. I'm having a hell of time reading the schematic (bad eyes). Add to that I can't find markings on the fuse box main connector and my meter is registering multiple 'zero' ohms on different main connector pins, I feel defeated! Question. If I take the fuse box out (looks like it can be) can I get into the backside where the wires are? I could then just grab the wire that goes to the start relay blade. Or is the inside potted and inaccessible? Thank you. (PS The multiple zero ohms really has me confused. If the main connector is pulled and the relay is out, the blade that connects to the orange wire should be isolated. I must be doing something wrong.)

Identifying the wires from the back could prove difficult. There's probably a hundred wires plugged into the back with a lot of duplicate colors. I realize the print is too small to read on these but I can't really make it any bigger and still fit into the forum. I blew it up and cropped out the part you should need. It might be the best place to grab this circuit is coming out of the neutral switch. They call it the transaxle range switch on the side of the transmission. If you interrupt that line it will block the trigger for the starter relay simulating not being in park.

You might want to look into a law suit that was just settled that entitles Kia owners to a bunch of stuff, some of which are software upgrade to the security system and reimbursements for previous expenditures. https://www.kiahecusettlement.com/Home/SubmitClaim https://www.marketwatch.com/...lion-payout-275b7a3e ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
