keep blowing backup light fuse Sign In

I have a 93 GMC 1/2 ton and I keep blowing the fuse for the signal and backup lights, I have managed to narrow the problem down to the backup light not the signal lights because every time I put it in reverse the fuse blows. I have checked all the wiring under the truck for shorts but I cannot find any, I have tryed slightly bigger fuses and nothing seems to work. I am all out of ideas. Anyone got any ideas

PLEASE don't use higher amp fuses.!!!!!! You probably have a bad socket for back up lights and if you take one bulb out at at time with a fistfull of fuses you should find which one. T

I'm starting to loose my mind, i tryed your suggestion and i think i narrowed it down to the right side. I took out the right bulb and put it in gear and it blew a fuse, so then i took out the left bulb and put in the right and it worked fine. BUT then i got thinking and noticed that the bulbs were slightly different and figured i what the heck and tryed switching the bulbs and then everything was working fine. both sides came on i tryed every combination, applying the brake while in reverse while signalling... everything. everything worked fine, so i put everything back together and go to back out of the shop and the fuse blows again. Do you think it could still be a faulty socket? and just works when it wants to kinda thing.

"You ARE starting to lose your mind!" ?? When you find mine out there I'd like it backSmile

From here I think you should look hard at the sockets and especially with a truck you may need to chase wires for faults. Trailer hitch wiring can be part of this. I'm not sure what else to suggest but await your success story. T
