intermittent door locks and interior lighting Sign In

My son has a 1994 olds cutlass supreme. When it is cold or wet outside (sometimes not even then) the interior lights come on all by themselves when the car is parked draining the battery. Also when you start the car the interior lights will fick on and off randomly as you are driving and the door locks will lock and unlock sometimes in rapid succession. The exterior lights are not effected. What could be causing this? we have taken out the interior lights so the battery does not drain and we make sure to always have a key in case the car locks us out (this has happend before). Thanks for your help

sounds like you could have a bad door lock relay, either sticking, or weak and a jar could activate it.

Just to add...

Maybe check the door jamb switches...especially the drivers door jamb switch.
The switch(es) that when the door is opened, turns on the interior lights.
I'm not sure on your vehicle, but some cars will lock the doors after door is closed and gear selector is shifted out of park,
And unlock door(s) when shifted back into park.
Thinking along those lines, maybe the jamb switch is faulty and intermittently turning on the interior lights and locking /unlocking the doors.
Just a thought...maybe I'm in left field here...
Wouldnt be the first time

Jim
