ignition accy function

I have a 1995 oldsmobile aurora and recently i noticed when i turn the ignition to the off position the factory stereo would stay on, even when i press the power button the clock led stays on. Thinking somthing was wrong with the stereo i pulled the fuse to prevent a dead battery however it wnt dead anyway. please help me discover the problem Drew

Does it go off when the door is opened with the key off?
How about the power windows? Are they staying alive after the key is off also?

I double checked and it does not go off when the door is opened, As well the power windows stay on and function even with the key off and after the door has been opened. It might be worth note that the dome lights do not come on when the door is opened, they do work with the switch on the dash. I looked into this a little but could not find a "pin switch" in the door frame. I was not that concerned about the dome light once I discovered this problem that drains my battery in a mater of hours. - Drew

The car is equipped with a "Retained Power Relay". It sounds like you may have a problem with the doors not triggering the open signal.
Here's how it works
Retained Accessory Power (RAP) allows the radio, power windows and sunroof to be operated approximately 10 minutes after turning the ignition switch to "OFF."
When the ignition switch is turned to "ACCY" or "RUN," battery voltage is applied from IGN-1 fuse through the ignition switch and the normally closed contacts of RAP accessory relay to power the radio. Battery voltage is also applied from I/P fuse block CHIME fuse to the ignition sense input, C1/B, of the Remote Accessory Control (RAC) module. When the ignition switch is turned to "OFF," the RAC module terminal C1/B senses this and turns on its output at terminal C1/H. This applies battery voltage, made available from RAC module terminal C1/A, to the coil of RAP accessory relay, energizing the coil. With RAP accessory relay energized, battery voltage from Rear Fuse Block IGN-1 fuse is applied directly through the closed contacts of RAP relay to power the radio. The radio operates for approximately 10 minutes or until any door is opened. If any door is opened, RAC module terminal C1/C is grounded thereby turning OFF the output at terminal C1/H, de-energizing RAP relay accessory, and removing power to the radio. The 10-minute time interval can be reset by turning the ignition switch to "RUN," then back to "OFF."
Operation of RAP ignition relay is similar to that of RAP accessory relay, however, the RAC module terminal C1/F supplies battery voltage when the ignition switch is turned to "OFF." RAP is made available to the power windows and sunroof, by turning on RAC module output terminal C1/F.

Lets pretend you are speaking to someone who does not know a lot about automotive repair(Bacause you are). What part is broken? or if it is not possible to tell with the info you have so far is there a way to diagnose the exact part that has malfunctioned? - Drew

I'm afraid it's just not that simple. You have a complex electrical circuit that have to be systematically troubleshooted by someone that understands electrical circuits and can read a wiring diagram. I seriously doubt this is something you will be able to resolve yourself.

I have worked a a mechanical contractor for several years and build pc'sin my sparetime if there is a place to find instructions i can do the work just not familiar with the automotive part makes it a lil intimidating. Is it possible to get instructions?

Right on! I beleive with this and your description of the cir. I will be able to locate my problem or at least do enough damage that I will not have a choice but meake the appointment and get a rental. Really It is way cool of you to be so helpful give me a few days and ill let ya know if i was successful or if i learned another expensive lesson. - Drew
