2002 Ford Focus 2.0l dual overhead cam 166k
Initial problem dash gauges going wild and relay clicking under dash. All lights flicker a bit. Replaced battery.
Checked voltage at Battery found 17 volts at idle. Battery light comes on. Replaced alt, was 14.5 for about 30 minutes then went back up to 17 volts. Had original alt tested, It tested good. What would cause the alt to charge to much? I found some info on the autozone site that says the VSS, ECT, TPS, and IAT sensors send signals back to the pcu for alt output. I do not see a IAT (Intake air temp) sensor. I replaced the VSS (speedo goes to 140mph while idling) and I see the TPS and The coolant sensor, Do not know what resistance I should see on these.

Electrical isn't my forte', but I'll give you my .02 worth. There are some vehicles that the alternator is controlled by the PCM, but not sure on yours.
