helllp No Start (good battery and starter) Chevy Venture Sign In

2000 Chevy Venture.
Bought it with bad (was dead/frozen over the winter) battery.
Started with a jump start, got it home.
To remove the battery you have to remove a brace bar and a large electrical box (full of fuses) before you can get to the battery.
Replaced batery and re-installed the electrical box and brace.
Now it will not start.

When I turn the key to the "on" position the dash lights up as it should.
When I turn to crank it over it makes a click and the dash dies, interior lights go very dim or off, and now it will not even make the click like the stater is trying to engage.
Starter was fine before battery replacement.
I checked, cleaned, and tightned the positive connection on the starter and at the master electrical box above the battery.
Cleaned and re-tightned the batery leads.

I'm wondering if it could be one of the big battery leads that need replacing or did I affect anything in the electrical box when I moved it out of the way to access the battery?

It also doesn't make a difference if I jump the batery any more. Same results.
After a short time it seems ok again (ie, dash lights, etc) but soon as I hit the crank position it all dies again.

Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Was told this by someone else...

You've inadvertendtly activated the security system and you're locked out. Get it towed to the dealer. The BCM (Body Control Module) needs to be accessed via scanner

Does that sound possible? Should be ale to replace a battery without having to take it to a dealer.
It does not have a pass key. Does it possibly have some type of security system?
And if so.. can I re-set it somehow?

thanks again

No, that's not how Passlock works. If Passlock shuts the system down, it will start and immediately stall and the security light will be flashing.

You have a bad connection at a power supply somewhere. Follow all the battery cable to all the terminals, especially the junction point where it feeds the power distribution box.

Thanks, I didn't think the security system sounded like an answer.
I tried checking continuity from between the battery cable at the battery and where it connects to the power dist box and it shows fine.
Same with neg battery terminal to engine block as a ground.

This does not however confirm that it will transfer enough amps (under a load) correct?

This is silly. Might have to break down and but a new positive battery lead. It splits into two heavy gague wires just outside of the battery to go to the power dist box and the starter.

I hate to start throwing parts ($) at it.

I tried to eliminate a battery issue by hooking up my large battery charger (on high/start) to the positive cable and a ground and then also from the jump post on the outside of the power dist box and a good ground. Same thing, nothing. Just some buzzing and gages jump a little but no crank.

Yes, that is correct.
What you are looking for is probably going to be one of the smaller positive leads that goes to a junction point or a fuse box.

The best way to test these thing is with a voltage drop test. You can test the feed to any point by taking a digital voltmeter and connecting one lead to the positive battery post and the other lead at the point where you think you have lost power and then energize that circuit by trying to start it. If you get a reading on the voltmeter of 1 volt or higher, it means that current went through your meter instead of the power lead and that's a current loss. You can isolate the section that is losing current that way.

Well Hammer..thanks for holding my hand thru this schrade.
The problem was actually a bad battery. It's frustrating to replace something and eliminate (at least in your mind) that component because you already replaced it. grr.. or should i say doh!

LOL......... That's why our troubleshooting procedures always start from the beginning. Never overlook the obvious.

Glad you got it solved though.
