Frowni own a 1997 ford escort. The other day when i turned it off i noticed that the cooling fan and the fuel pump came on and started to run, It never turned off. i replace the constant control relay and thought that this fixed the problem. i drove it home and it stalled when i stopped. when i turned the engine off the fuel pump and cooling fan started to run again without cutting off. please help!

This must be relay day! Try pulling out the relay(s) that control these. Not usually a problem with two at once and sometimes they will snap out of it by tapping on them - if that works they have to go,

Is it possible that the ignition switch isn't recognizing the disconnection? Could the ignition switch be wearing out and not breaking connection when the key is turned? We replaced the main relay box (under the intake tubes.) Seems to have not done anything helpfull. Thanks for the help!

Yes. I guess anything is possible and that would be one. Will it shut down if you turn key to accessorie position instead of just off where you pull the key out? There was a whole era where Tauruses had a brain dead ignition switch. Those were older cars than this one but who knows?? Some manufacturing flaws are just too much fun to make only once!
