i have a 2002 cadillac devile 4.6 ltr. base. 68400 miles. my dash lights go dim evert once in awhile. what might the cause be and where should i start trouble shooting

You should have control of how bright they are with a dimmer done somehow - rolling wheel or something. Sometimes those need to be moved just a tad or move full range several times and may clean itself it that's it.
Chain auto parts - namely AutoZone have cig lighter/power port digital volt meters in them. $10 or so. Then you can watch real volts when it happens. If they drop right off move on to other things like belt not tight enough or charging issues,
