No matter for the moment. You could isolate a strong drain by putting a test light between disconnected negative battery cable and the post. If a drain the test light will light. Unplug hood light if applicable. Changed battery was mentioned - new or just a different one? Known charged or not? Any good, charged battery that drops voltage to 5v as checked at posts (not the clamps) has a very serious drain that would probably be smoking hot or burned up wires by now. You said you found "shorts" going to fuse box. What does that mean - bare wire, melted, wires touching that shouldn't?
