hi new to the forum can anyone advise me if it is ok to remove the ECU from my car i have been having trouble with the central locking on my renault clio and have come to the conclusion that water has got onto the ecu which is affecting the electrics i am worried that if i remove the ecu then it will need reprogramming, also if it is wet is there a good way to dry out.

You first need to find the reason why there is water leaking onto your ECU and fix that. You won't need to program it. The problem you might have is the ECU PSB circuit and component connections could be corroded if water got inside. You won't know until you open up the ECU and have a look inside.

the reason it has happened is because the sunroof leaked which has been resolved for a while now but the central locking is still playing up, how easy or hard are ECU's to get out do you know, also whats the best way of drying out and is there any way of removing any corrosion safely without completely killing it.

We don't have the renault clio here in the states, so can't give you any info on where it is located or even if there is an ECU that controls the central locking system on this.
Has anyone actually diagnosed the central locking system or is this a wild guess that the ECU is water damaged? If not, maybe you should have a tech check it out to see what the actual problem is.

nobody has actually said its the ecu i've been googling and this seems the only plausable reason.

Mikemo70: You can Google an Elvis sighting still so give it a rest. Dang electronic much of anything is sealed the plug would be the weak spot if this is involve at all?
I don't and don't think we are going to know if this is even involved with locking set up? That you might want to verify first before this goose chase,
