More than likely it is internally mounted in the alternator. You can replace it, but it is more time saving to replace the alternator. If cost is a major concern, the regulator is replaceable and if you want to go that route, I will try to assist. It is not an easy process and may involve a little soldering and wiring.

Actually the regulator is internal of the SMEC (Signal module engine controller) in other words the computer. It is not serviceable and if it fails you have to replace the computer. Kind of a shame; I’ve seen a perfectly running car with a bad regulator and have to change the computer because of it. There is a way of wiring in an older style of external regulator but you really need to know what you’re doing or you’ll let the smoke out of the computer, wiring harness or the alternator.
If you’re thinking of rewiring I suggest taking it in to someone that has done this before. Even my tech’s still make me do the rewiring when we get one in.
