dash lights all light up

My daughter has a 2005 Town and Country. She brought it back from the dealer after routine maintenance and on two occasions once when driving and once when starting it all the dash lights came on momentarily. She took it back to the dealer and they ran diagnostics and told her it was the battery. Has anyone else experienced this event? It sound strange that a poor battery would have this effect.

Which lights light up? When starting light do light up as a "bulb check" feature - driving along it's a problem or perhaps engine was on the verge of a stall?? How old is the battery? They can have intermittent shorts especially after 3-4 years old when dependability drops off sharply,
