changing the cable from alternator to junction box Sign In

first off my car is 2003 ford focus SE 2.3L engine w/ aprox.80k miles

i took my car too a local machanic because i had replaced the aternator 3 times in a week and put in a brand new battery because i was getting told there was no charge or the newest alt. was bad so this mechanic told me the problam was in the cable between the alt. and junction box he said there was like a 180 amp fuse inside the cable ( i could be wrong on the amp size ) that was fried so he said it would cost 200$ parts and like 2-3 hours time making the repair like 400$ so i called ford and they said they can get me the cable for like 90$ big dfference so my question is dose anyone know anything about this or how i should go about it because i cant realy pay another 400$ to a mechanic thank you all for any advice you have.

I think on 2003 there alternator is bottom left (looking at the motor from the pullys) you will have to remove belt and alt (after disconnecting battery). it's a pain to get at and if i remember correctly you have to take it out from underneath and it's in a tight spot. better job to do on a hoist.
