1997 Camaro 3800 eng and auto trans with front disc and rear drum brakes. 4-wheel ABS, but no traction control. Pads, calipers, shoes, wheel cylinders, and drums, are in ecellent condition. Brakes work fine, but brake indicator light stays on anytime ignition is on. Brake light will go out if electrical connection to proportioning valve is disconnected. Then brake light will come on when emergency brake is applied and goes off when emergency brake is released. Abs system and all 4 wheels have been bled twice. All 4 wheels are braking as they should. ABS light does not stay on after test cycle when car is started.

Re: brakes Sign In

Are you talking about the RED brake warning light that would come on if parking brake is left on or for low fluid or imbalance of pressure? If so and parking braked and switch for that is ok - unplugging the wire at the proportioning valve is a clue. The system could have more fluid and pressure in either front or back and that light is triggered when off center. Most will center when you get the light on and hold brake pedal and just bleed out a smidge even right at the master cyl on one side (front or rear) and when light goes out it's happy again. GM has used a similar combination valve in many vehicles since dual systems became mandated in model year 1967!

Any leaking or regualar need for topping off the fluid is a strong warning to check it out. Fluid can leak down back of master cylinder and go unoticed sometimes if so,
