brake lights stay on Sign In

I have a 1992 Chevy Cavailier, my brake lights wont go out. The ABS light on the dash has started flashing. My brakes are fine as far as stopping. I have been pulling the fuse when I get home. How do I get the lights to work
properly again?

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Re: brake lights stay on Sign In

First place I'd be looking is the brake light switch at the brake pedal for the brakes lights themselves.

Is the pedal returning to its full UP position?

Make sure fluid is properly filled.

Not so sure about the ABS light flashing?? Do you mean on and off periodically while you drive?? There probably is a code waiting to tell you more about that so I suggest a code reading for ABS and don't think that's the brake light issue right now,

Are your drums rusty? J/K Tom's right the ABS is most likely a seperate issue though you could be right as well, a popped fuse can alter a lights current resisting another current and telling the light to stay on. Yes, electricity speax.

I am sure it's your brake light swtich. There is a thread and nut on most of these, it may need some tinkering. You can find your brake light switch under the dash directly behind the carpet, behind your brake pedal. If you have trouble finding it or assessing the situation, I would just get it replaced to be on the safe side. They cost around $15. If that doesn't work, then there may be a constant power issue. Try B/L switch first.

WinkThanks for the help!! It was the lil switch behind the pedal. Apparently the lights staying on caused the ABS light to blink, it too has stopped. So for now everyone behind me doesn't think I'm a twit riding my brakes!!
Thanks again for the help! I'm glad I found this sight
