battery won't charge "07 Taurus Sign In

I have an '07 Ford Taurus (6cyl./3lt.). I had a brand new battery installed - and after 3 days the car died (battery died) leaving me stranded. After charging the battery with a charger, I drove to AutoZone - they tested both the alternator and the battery - and they each tested as GOOD. Does the alternator have a "fuse" or something like that that would be keeping it from charging the battery? Or is there something like a voltage regulator that would be bad - not allowing the alternator to charge the battery? Or, maybe the starter (is there a "connection" between the starter and the alternator that could be compromised? (when the battery got partially re-charged - it turned the engine over just fine.

Use a test light or meter and test for voltage at the large main terminal at the alternator with the key OFF.

Do you have voltage? How much?

Thanks for the quick reply - and please excuse my naivete - I just bought a multi-tester ... but am not sure how to do the test you just suggested.

Switch the meter to DC volts on a 0-20 scale if it's not self ranging. Put the black lead on the negative battery post or any good ground and put the red lead in the large terminal of the alternator (engine and key off) . What does it read?
