It won't engage the starter with the key?
Did you smell or see any smoke?

I think backfire might be a result of losing ignition power. The only power I have is headlights, flasher and horn. All else is dead. No dash indicators, all is dead including wipers.

Check the ignition switch. They had a ton of problems with them back then.

Thank you Hammer for your help. I have no power going to ignition switch. My haynes manual shows a hot at all times yellow wire with fuse link but i have no idea where to find it.

The fusible links will be attached to the starter solenoid, next to the battery.
