I was hit in the tailgate approx 6 months ago. 2 months later the locking system starts to lock itself automatically. It started when I would use the handle to open the tailgate and now it happens while I'm driving down the road(especially over bumps) and even while the car sits idle. I'm thinking there's a short somewhere in the tailgate area. Is there a way to disconnect the tailgate lock and still be able to use the tailgate? How else could I fix this problem?

Does the vehicle have a third tail light?....sometimes these affect the anti-theft system/ you could disarm the system completely by unpluging the module.
