I have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE 2.2 2door. I recently replaced the alternator and battery, only to find the new alternator not charging. My battery voltage reads 12.65 with the vehicle not running, and I am showing 12.60 at the ring terminal that connects to the alternator. The connector to my alternator has 2 wires populating it one is greenish-gray and is a ground, the other wire in the connector is red, but is not reading battery voltage. I have read that the red wire in the alternator connector should read the save voltage as the battery. I have checked all fuses inside the car and in the engine compartment fuse box.
My question is: Where does the red wire in the alternator connector lead to? Is there a fuse able link hidden somewhere on this model car? Can this wire be repaired by splicing near the alternator connector to the +12 battery connection? If so, what amp inline fuse should I use?
Note: I have basic understanding of electrical, I am just having trouble following this wire through the engine compartment to find out where the wire leads to.

There may be a fusable link for the larger main wire that should read same as the battery. You might try a fused jumper wire from it to battery and see it all works. Then the chase for the link or where it doesn't make it - sorry don't know off hand,
