I have a 1967 caprice with a 283. It is an everyday driver, runs very well. I just put a new battery, voltage regulator, and reman alternator. The problem is after I turn off the key the alternator light comes on and stays on until I start it back up. I checked it and it is charging (13.5 volts). I also took it off and had the store I bought it from check it. They checked it 3 times and say it's good. Please help. Thanks, Dave

sounds like you either have a short to ground on that light wire somewhere along its path, a short to hot, or a miswired connection to the light.

if the light has the hot wire at the light from the fuse or other source, and a ground is fed to the alternator, i would check for a ground short, meaning the wire is prematurely touching ground somewhere before the final connection point, and or your feed wire is connected to a constant hot, rather than a key on hot.

but more likely, it sounds like;
if the light hot feed wire is coming from the alternator, then i would look to make sure its not connected to the wrong source. you want the source thats only functional(has 12v) when the car is on, not off.

tip you can run a new temporary wire through the window to test if its a bad wire, then you can run a new wire if found to be faulty, if you cant find the connection problem.

When you disconnect the small wires off the alternator does the light go out?
