My windshield wiper pump is malfunctioning on my 2006 GMC Envoy V6. When the switch is activated to start the flow from the windshield wiper fluid reservoir, the pump doesn't make the humming sound which led me to believe it was the pump that needs to be replaced. Replacing the pump didn't help anything and the line wasn't clogged. I am going to check to see if there is 12V supplied through the line, but what do I do if there is not?? Better yet, what do I do if there is? How much could this cost me or is this something I can do by myself?

Wellllll - Test for power first. If a separate pump and has power AND ground but won't work you can try a universal pump kit - under $10 bucks or so at WallyWorld - they work fine, T

Thanks Tom!! The power was tested, and it is dead. Is this something that can be fixed at home, or should I just take it to the shop?

2006 is a bit new for me to have a history on. Gueses: Power is triggered from multi-function switch at directional, on to wiper motor which must or should be tirggered into operating when fluid is requested and the plug right there may be the issue. I hate poking wires to see what's hot and use care if you do but see if same color wire is at plug at wiper motor and at the pump - check for current upstream and follow. If you have to test a wire - do seal it up (liquid electrical tape for ex) and make the smallest test that works. Avoid doing that at all if possible. That only if you find same color wires as said to prove it at least leaves the wiper motor. Motor itself could be a fault too. Older GMs had faulty circuit boards in them but didn't fail in this way. Check for service bulletins or recall for this too with VIN ready at dealer. Hey - Is there any warranty still on this? Best not to touch stuff if a warranty is still in effect - check as safety items may very well not be limited to X # of miles but rather months of service! T
