Hey-

I have a '89 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with auto windows. The front passenger door's window will not go up... but it will go down (haven't put it all the way down yet). I can't put the window up from the driver side either. The other 3 windows go up and down. Any ideas as to which part is faulty? And if I can't fix it right away, will I be able to at least get the window back up?

Please help... snow is coming!

From the description you gave sounds like the power window motor is getting tired. If every few seconds the motor goes up a little and stops, keep doing this until the window is all the way up and don't use it until the motor is replaced.

As of last night it wasn't going up at all. I am going to go mess with it now. Wish me luck!

On a car this old, it has been my experience that a broken wire in the boot going through the door is often the culprit. Now there is a wire harness large enough to choke a horse going through and there is little slack to make a suitable repair. Also, this problem is most often found in the drivers door. (Think about it... the drivers door gets most of the use.) A test light, patience, and schematic are a must to diagnose. Good luck

We went in, messed around, tried to get to the motor, but couldn't. Tired to get the window up by pulling on the belt, but it wouldn't budge. There was no way to fix it ourselves (and it is Sunday and a storm was coming) so we detached the window from the motor and propped it up securely with a few pieces of wood. We are looking for a new car right now anyways. This one isn't going to be around come spring time so I think we can do without a passenger side window being open.
