Window electrical promblem

I have a 1999 Buick century 4 door custom. For the past year my driver side window hasn't worked. I replaced the switch and the motor, Neither of which solved my problem. The window has no problem going up but it will not send a signal to the motor to go down. I have hooked a 12v meter up to the wiring and both switches will give an up signal but not a down signal. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please let me know.

Where did you get the switch? If the window goes up, but not down that means the switch panel has power and ground and your wiring is good from the motor to the switch panel. That leaves the switch as the culprit, unless you have a something hanging the glass up in the channel such as a floppy belt molding.

I have both the original switch and a brand new switch I bought off amazon. Its unlikely both switches have the exact same problem.

Can you operate the other windows from both the master switch and their individual switches?

Yes. Every other button on the original and new master switch work perfectly. Also all the individual door switches work perfectly.

It has a module built but that's built into the switch. The problem can only be the switch, the motor or the wires between them.

Did you make sure that the molding isn't catching the glass on the way down? On the top of the door panel there is a rubber molding that butts up against the glass. I have seen them go floppy and grab the window on the way down which causes the CB to open.

No I haven't checked that yet but I can have the window start half way down and it still won't go down. If that was a problem it still doesn't explain why I can get a voltage signal from every other wire going up or down. But I can only receive a signal going up on the drivers door.

Like I said, there is nothing besides the switch, motor and connecting wiring that can be to blame if the problem is actually electrical. As pointed out, the "auto down" feature uses a circuit breaker to shut it off when it meets resistance.
