Urgent problem with a fusible link on a 1987 toyota van Sign In

1987
toyota
Van
2.2
258000

Hi I have an urgent problem with a fusible link
Ive been having starter problems and ive replaced all fuses except this one which supplies power to the starter
replaced starter, battery and alternator already
and also one fusible link connecting to the battery

The fuse im concerned about is the 'AM1 fuse' behind the passenger seat near the power steering res
heres the thread to get a better picture
link deleted

So the fuse box had no cover
and that AM1 fuse was slightly damaged and wedged in there really tight
so time to replace right?

I ordered this fuse which is identical to the other fuses
link deleted.......... not allowed

_Links
its yellow and rated at 60amps

I tried to pry the old fuse out and it broke
now the pieces from this old broken fuse are slightly different and the prongs seem different??

what Im left with is 2 different damaged prongs hanging out!

1 is that fuse supposed to be in there permanently?
2 Does anyone know where I can obtain the right fuse? (part number etc)
3 If I've wrecked this thing completely Is it possible to get another fuse box and put it in there,
like just snip the wires and reconnect
4 Can i use a quick fix electrical fuse holder in the meantime rated at 60amps like mentioned in the
fusible link thread

Any help would be greatly appreciated
As im gonna get some parking tickets

Many Thanks
Paul

I assure you that you don't want to be snipping wires and changing an entire fuse box. If you can find a fuse holder thats actually rated for that level of amperage and used it as a stand in to get this off the road I can't see a problem with it, but wouldn't consider it a permanent fix. Some brands did like to install special fuses of a style most stores don't have. I think a call to your local Toyota dealer wouldn't be a bad idea to try to locate the proper part. If you try the bypass with a fuse holder, make very sure the connections can't possibly ground. You can and will start wires on fire and may burn the van up.
