Turn signals and Hazard flashers shut off. Sign In

2002
Mitsubishi
Lancer
2.0L /4 cylinder
135,xxx miles

Hi! I've been trying to figure out what is wrong with my car here this past week - hopefully you know more than I do about it!

So here's what's wrong:

The turn signals and hazard flasher shut off randomly in my 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer.

What I've done about it:

1) I located and replaced the hazard signal fuse.(10 amp fuse located in the engine compartment). When I did this in the beginning the fuse would snap after a couple of minutes of use of my turn signals. Now it snaps instantly when I touch the fuse to the terminal.
2) I purchased and ECT 2000 short circuit/open circuit detector. When I test the fuse terminal for the hazard flashers the ECT 2000 does not detect a short.... At this point I am very confused and frustrated because I thought for sure there was a short somewhere in the circuit.
3) I pulled out every single fuse in the engine compartment as well as all of the fuses inside the car. All of them are just fine. I also looked for any other fuse that could be related to the turn signals in the owners manual; to my knowledge no such thing exists for this car.

What I think could be wrong:

Right now I'm thinking that it could be the Turn signal relay, but the thing is I cannot find it. I've scoured the owner's manual as well as the internet for this information. I'm beginning to think there is no turn signal relay for this car... I'm in dire need of help. Can someone tell me what is wrong with my car?

It appears that the flasher/relay is built into the ECU.

Thanks for the input! I'll try that out.
