 Hi...First my Car details..I have a 2001 reg..Toyota-Yaris 'T-sport' 1.5 engine..with a very-low mileage..
Now onto my problem...Some weeks ago, I decided to replace my 'original' battery, due to it being over 'nine' years old, and was having to give it a fairly regular 'top-up-charge'. I would not normally clock up much mileage over a week !
Having bought a new battery, all seemed fine for the first few days..I then noticed my starting was getting a little sluggish, my first thought were that perhaps the battery had not had a full charge prior to being dispatched to me.
At this point, I decided to make sure the battery got a 'full-charge', via a 'battery-charger'...Within a few days, I could not even start the Car, I did manage to 'bump-start' It, but decided to get the A-A out to check the battery.
The A-A did a comprehensive test, checking the Alternator output looking for any abvious fault...The conclusion was that the new battery was 'faulty'...
At this stage I had to send a fault-report to the battery supplier, who exchanged the battery..
A few days later..I had to get the A-A out again, with the same problem, 'battery-flat' no problem with Alternator...I have since bought another battery from Toyota, and booked the Car in to an 'Auto-Electrician'..They said there was no problem with battery charge rate, and battery drain was minimal, when car was not running, they suggested that doing more mileage may help prevent the battery going down...
I have in the last couple of weeks, done some checks on the battery myself, I am quite sure there is an 'intermittent' drain on the battery when the Car is 'not-being-used'. Using a digital-multimeter, to check 'voltage-drop' and 'drain'..I last gave the battery a 'full' charge, 'two-weeks' ago...The drain some days will show as approx '20-m-amps', whlist on other days, usually when the car has been run, It can show up to '170-m-amps'..
I am now at a loss what to do next....Any advice much appreciated...

Voltage drop won't tell you anything about parasitic drain.
There is a procedure for finding a battery draw like that.
You will need a digital ammeter and a jumper wire with clips on the ends to do this.
First rig any door switches so you can have a door open without triggering the interior lights and unplug the hood light. Remove one battery cable and attach the meter in series between the battery cable and battery post. Take the jumper wire and also attach it the same way. Leave the jumper wire on for at least 10 minutes to expire all the automatic timers. Now remove the jumper wire and read the meter. Anything over 50ma is too much draw. The way you locate this is to start removing fuses one at a time until the meter drops to normal level. This will be the circuit with something staying on. Determine what components are part of that circuit and check them individually until the problem is isolated.

Hi...Thanking You for your help....Maybe I would just like to 'clarify' a point about me checking my battery 'Voltage-Drop'...
Because Iv'e checked my battery voltage at a fairly regular interval, when the Car has not run...The voltage-drop 'difference' from the previous say 24-hours, give's me a 'good' quick indication of how severe the drain is...
This is how I check the drain.......With my DMM set at 20A I connect the DMM in-between the 'Negative batttery post' and the 'Negative' groung lead...This appears to work o-k....The readings only seem to vary between only two figures.....'0.02' no problem with this. or '0.17' this is the problem..
Do I need to remove 'all' the fuses one by one, or is it possible to narrow the search down a bit....Surely when the key is out of the Car, quite a few items of equipment are imobilized..I'm a little concerned about searching and removing all the various fuses...

If that much draw is remaining after 5 minutes, that would be a problem and yes, removing the fuses one by one is the only way to find that.
