Hi, A newbie here-

I have a Toyota Highlander 2006- Miles 48K, the tails lights keep going off.

All the other lights work just fine- brake lights, headlights, signal lights, but the tail lights.

I have taken the car to Toyota twice and they can’t seem to find the problem.

They fix the fuse and send me back home, two days later the tails lights are out again.

The car is due back to Toyota on Friday since I don’t have tail lights again!

It does not seem like they know what they are doing and I’m tried of taking the car back to them.

Any suggestion..... Please help

Sue

Susay; You mentioned that they replaced the fuse? Electrical problems can be just a plain nightmare, sometimes, to find because the problem has to be happening at the time of testing. If the fuse has blown again, I'd request that they check the combination switch. This switch has the turn signals, headlamps, sometimes wiper and cruise controls going through it. I'd be surprised if that new of a vehicle has this problem, but I think I'd start looking there. Give them as much info as you can...how long you are driving before the fuse blows...Does it take 10 seconds, or an hour and a half? Electrical parts are very heat sensitive. May be just fine with the car 'sitting' there...

Hi Loren-

Thank you for your reply and input... Update I took the car back to Toyota on Friday 11/7/09. I told them exactly what you mentioned check the combination switch.

They said they checked everything and the only thing they could find was burnt bulb and they replaced all. I picked up the car on Saturday and all was well until last night when the tail lights went out again.

People on the freeway kept honking at me to turn my lights on, but my headlights were on but on tail lights…. I’m at the end of my wits don’t know what to do.

I’m taking the car back tomorrow…
