Tail Light Problem

1989 Jeep Wagoneer (Not Grand Wagoneer)
Original Headlight Switch fried and fell apart.
Connector has char damage, but wires and connection blades are intact and appear in working order
Replaced w/OEM switch and all wires and connection blades appear to be properly connected.
When switch is pulled into the "running light" position, dash, running and tail lights all come on
When the switch is then pulled into the headlight position, the headlights come on, but the dash, running and tail lights all turn off
Repeated removals, checking of the wiring and connectors and reinstalls are not changing the results
Attempts to find visually usefull wiring diagram is also not panning out
Attached is this sob story with a diagram of my switch w/"actual colors" used. Does not seem to match my Haynes manual for color

I don’t see your attachment but if the running lights come on in one position and not in the full on then I would say you have a bad switch?

attachment, sorry, I uploaded, where it went????, This switch has been this way since purchase, originally thought might be a wiring problem, only much later considered this, on list to try, my upload was to test whether I had all the wires corectly installed due to the original damage to connector and switch.....

I’ve looked at 1988 through too 1990 wiring diagrams that I have and they all show a dark blue wire to feed the running lights. All the diagrams only show one terminal on the switch for those lights; so I’m still thinking a bad switch.
Turn on the running/parking/tail lights (whatever you want to call them) then with a test light, see which wire has power with the switch on, in that position. Now pull the switch on the rest of the way; there should still be power on that same terminal. The way my diagrams all look; if the power on the parking light circuit turn off, when the switch is pulled on for all lights to work, then the switch almost has to be bad?

Dan,
Thanks for the drawing. It and a V meter allowed me to 1-confirm the switch was in fact good, and 2-correct the problem caused by a misplaced terminal with in the damaged connector.
Lights working now. I have included a before and after of the switch so that you can add it to your collection of drawings.

Just goes to show you that no mater how many years of experience or how many wiring diagrams you have; you have to be there in person to figure some things out.
