Stereo wont stay on

Year of vehicle: 1996
Make of vehicle: VW
Model of vehicle: Caravelle
Engine size: 2.4
Mileage/Kilometers: 140,000
My van starts fine when i turn the ignition (clockwise). Once started the only way to get the stereo on is if i force the key cloakwise some more (even though it is already as far right as it will naturally go) and hold it there, if i let it go the stereo goes off.
I havent tried anything to fix it yet, was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Try holding up on the key itself. The electrical part of the switch sometimes comes apart slightly and must be replaced . this is often the case with large key rings with a lot of weight .
